Respect Begins With You
Here is what I was thinking:
People are like the proverbial bad penny; the toxic ones keep rolling back through.
If you have toxic people around you, they will always give you a wakeup call for you to have your own back in the future. Be thankful they repeat their past behavior with you because then you can stop kidding yourself that they have spontaneously combusted into a better person. Leave them be. If you don’t have any standards, you will accept any behavior thrown at you and allow people to treat you anyway they please.
Most of us, when we are down, focus on what we don’t have or what we think we won’t have if we let go of something or someone that causes us pain.
Some people go their entire lives allowing behavior of others to dictate what you do and don’t do. If we sink to their level then we are part of the problem. Know your worth. Let people know you will not tolerate nonsense.
Many of us are people pleasers and often put ourselves at a disadvantage by trying to accommodate. Communicate better. If you don’t want to do something, be clear that you don’t want to do it. So don’t say yes when you really mean no. Stop giving up too much to be included.
If you are saying yes to others, make sure you are not saying no to yourself. Complacency is dangerous. Create some personal boundaries. Have your own back.
If you want respect, you have to give respect. Start with yourself! Cause people to be good to you; cause them to go out of their way.
